ST. LOUIS LIGHT RAIL
Crossroads of America

An inbound train sweeps along the elevated curve in this photo.  Clayton is its next stop inbound.  A good portion of the line between Shrewsbury and Clayton, which includes four intermediate stations, follows an old Terminal Railroad line.  From Clayton to Forest Park-DeBaliviere, much of the surface route follows a former Rock Island line, a route that long ago carried passengers between St. Louis and Colorado.

To Colorado, and to Tennessee, and to Michigan.  Old rail routes in several directions are reutilized in bits and pieces by MetroLink.  It speaks to the central location of St. Louis, and hints of the city's continuing role as a transportation focal point.
