PORTLAND MAX LIGHT RAIL
Downtown Lanes

This view looks southbound along SW 5th Ave.  The one-way cross street at the first red signal is SW Morrison, which carries MAX westbound trains to Beaverton and Hillsboro.

When the Portland Transit Mall, as it was formerly called, was first created it was restricted for through traffic to buses only.  With the coming of light rail, there is now also a single general-purpose traffic lane, visible here to the left.  Buses and light rail swap the two right-hand lanes, depending on which operation has the next nearby stop ahead.

The Green Line train in this image is in the process of leaving Pioneer Place/SW 5th, and has two stations ahead on its uphill run.
