Although all passenger service is underground, the
dedicated transit lover can find a decent location outdoors to
contemplate or photograph heavy rail.  The 4th St. Bridge spans the
Los Angeles River, such as it is, as well as multiple tracks for the
MTA yards, and passenger and freight rail routes on either
		side of the river.

On this warm Saturday morning in July a number of cars were parked in
		outdoor storage.

The next bridge up in this scene is for 1st St.  Late in 2009 Gold
Line light rail began plying there across the river to serve Boyle Heights and East L.A.
Once upon a time PCC streetcars crossed on this structure, in an earlier electric
urban rail era for the Los Angeles area. |
