From the 4th St. Bridge, looking south, this view shows
the tracks serving the Main Shops and Yard narrowing toward a final two
sets of rail,
which end indistinctly in the distance. The next bridge down
carries Whittier Blvd. across the Los Angeles River.
Over these many
decades hundreds and surely thousands of movie and television shows,
and television commercials, have been shot under the various bridges in
this area along the concretized bed of the part-time waterway.
Closer to the river on this side, the right of way of the former Santa Fe carries
freight, commuter and Amtrak traffic to and from San Diego County. Directly
across, the former Southern Pacific heads out toward Riverside
County, also with freight, commuter and Amtrak traffic. |
