PORTLAND STREETCAR
MAX Crossing Ahead

Rail traffic at right angles obliges the photographer in this downtown view.  The Streetcar is headed for RiverPlace, and the TriMet MAX train is doing the long Blue Line route from Hillsboro out to Gresham.  The lighter streetcar vehicles can run along MAX rails, but streetcar tracks cannot accommodate the bigger units.

The line's fleet consists of ten units, built in the Czech Republic by Škoda-Inekon.  The cars are double-ended.  Unlike the trolleys of old, there is only one power collection unit atop each car, and thus it may be bowed either toward the front or rear of the vehicle, depending on direction of travel.
