MEMPHIS HERITAGE RAIL
South Main Historic Arts District

The area south of Beale St. is full of old commercial buildings, many of which have been revived in what is now called the South Main Arts District.  Galleries and shops occupy ground floors of many of the structures, and studios and workshops are much in evidence.  The National Civil Rights Museum, built at the old Lorraine Motel where Martin Luther King was assassinated, is nearby.

The trolley in this view has passed the next-to-the last southbound stop, Butler.  All streetcars in that direction end shortly ahead.  Northbound, trolleys can either be starting a new run on the Main Street Line, or operating the Riverfront Loop, having arrived from the Warehouse District.
