WASHINGTON, DC HEAVY RAIL
Branch Ave., Green Line

A Green Line train waits to head back into the District and further on out to Greenbelt, Maryland on a warm and hazy late afternoon in this photo, taken a few months after the extension opened.  New plantings and a certain almost antiseptic appearance attest to young status for this area.

The Green is the only route that does not go beyond the metropolitan area's famous Beltway.  While in DC, the Green Line intersects with the Red Line at two different stations, something unusual on any of the heavy rail systems in this country.
